I think it's actually good to be a P.A

So after the fact that I know my projector might not be usable till I get a new bulb, I can only concentrate on other things that aren't going to disturb my flow. I got to make sure I am still on track with this blog because it seems to be so refreshing to release my brain juices out in words. Anyways today I was helping the promos department reorganizing the old studio that has been abandoned in the News 8 studio. I was already helping on Wednesday and today was a deeper clean up. We took down lights from different parts of the hangers on the top of the studio and moved them in sections. It was tedious, but it's better than going on the comptuter doing tedious work that can ruin your physical condition.

I'm talkin about the bad ergonomics in the news room, no wrist pads for the mouse or keyboard can cause strain in your wrist. I've been trying to keep exercising, particularly in Martial Arts to kind of work the flow of my whole body. Next there's swimming, it is such a great way to relieve the whole body. By the way, it's so much better to swim in the ocean than a pool sometimes believe it or not. I mean the ocean is not much cleaner than the pool, but it still seems natural.

So back to being a PA for the day, I cleaned out the studio and I got to see some more behind the scenes activity in the promos department. There were more city shots for the new commercial, and it rung a bell in my head when I got to check them out. They were time lapse shots of the city in different locations and those setup shots where exactly what I need for my next music video. Just a reminder to myself, this music video business is not over yet. I maybe busy and any chance I get to rest, I'll take it but I gotta make sure when its time to go in action, its time.

And speaking of time, it's about that time. I'll fill this blog with more stuff after the weekend. But if I'm lucky I'll be able to squeeze in some time on the weekend as well!

Peace.

almost forgot to post on a wednesday again

seriously this semester is crazy, I thought I had this whole thing under control!!! I found out today that in order to complete my graduation process I had to send the transcript to CSUSM from the community college that has the record of me completing my 3rd semester of a foreign language. Not a hassle but seriously it's taking too long. Ah, but the benefit lies here I just wait for the degree to be mailed to my home at the convienience of mail. What old school technology still can do.

this station used 16mm FILM!!

It was hard to believe but it was so dope to know that local news stations used film back in the day, particularly the 1960s and earlier. Okay, after writing that sentence that just made me feel dumb because news was already shot on film and I should have already known that. Okay so where am I going with this? One of the camera guys that I spoked to today showed me his demo and talked about how the station used 16mm film. I think the cool part of this story was that the station still had it in the archives. SUPER SICK. alright I just wanted to spit this story out today. peace out for today world.

engineering department

So this is like the heart of the show. The technical people that make it possible. Satellite communications of the on field reporters are transfered through here. Before a show, the people in this department make sure connections are through and audio sounds dope for the live on air broadcast. But it was cool to be in the one engineering room and to see that it only needs one person to run it. It's not an office or a cubicle. It was like the size of a backyard for one person to operate and control a show's tech communications.

more loggin in text and soundbites

Simone hooked me up with 2 interviews to log. Solar week and water conservation.

It's funny how many things go on in San Diego and I don't even get my ass to enjoy these activities. No wonder I'm always tripping out about not hanging out all the time. Solar week is a promotion to everyone that they can save energy and this earth by using solar. (sounds more like a way to promote businesses) So as I log in this video; I was dead on. It went from being educational to advertising new solar products. But over all it is important to concentrate on my work and not worry about anything else. Solar power is after all a benefit to the earth. But not perfect.

Water conservation is definitely the more important area to catch. According to this scientist talkin on the tape, he says we are already below 40 percent of having no water. So that means even with the crazy rain that might come in December we'll be back to 0 percent of not having enough water. So it would only be appropriate to have rain for a long time to regain all our water so we don't have to take water from the delta's up in northern cali and some from the colorado river. But hey, I don't control these things, I can control my smart use of water though. So conserve conserve conserve.

dying in the news writing process.

It's impossible, I'm given a story that I do not enjoy and I actually suck at doing. I'm going to have to call it crap. So basically this morning Simone had given me a story to write and it's about some person getting stung by a stingray. I mean the story is totally rad and exciting I mean it has comedy and tragedy at the same time, but it kind of sucked that I got brain dead in the process of writing. In the information we can research, I was only given 3-5 sentences and the video. I was totally blanked out. So I typed the story based on the video, and the results seemed pretty presentable. By air time, I was

still haven't improved in newswriting

Usually a typical person would be sad, or emotional about getting a bad grade on a test, or a homework assignment. But this kid here doesn't fall easily. Well it was real funny to make a writing mistake in the news room on one of the news stories I was assigned. After all you can learn from mistakes. It was cool that I got a chance to go one on one with one of the pro news writers giving me a new outlook. What I mean by outlook is definitely a new view of writing. It's as simple as telling a story to your neighbor who might be a person who likes properness, likes something "punchy" and simple all at the same time. I never like challenges, but somehow honestly I really enjoy this one. It's not that I naturally enjoy it, its the fact that if I fail in this I fail in a lot of opportunities. So to not scare myself off, I know I can get this newswriting thing down.

On other situations around my life I'm still in the process of a new job transition in addition to the internship. At a local community college near my house I am getting a job at a tutoring center as a front desk rep. Having a college job or job at school is probably more efficient than working at an outside retail store. Or at least the school job has the better schedule. So at this point in the semester things are changing way too fast, it's kind of fun though.
